Inner wheel CLUB OF MADRAS
Inner Wheel is an organization that is closely linked to the Rotary movement. It was started on 10th January 1924 with wives of Rotarians as Members. Today, membership is open to wives, sisters, mothers & daughters of Rotarians and Rotaractors.
The Objects of the organisation are:
1. To promote true friendship
2. To encourage the ideals of personal service
3. To foster international understanding
As with Rotary, Inner Wheel Clubs belong to a District and Districts form Associations and National Councils. Inner Wheel Club Members follow the adage, “Unit is Strength”.
International Understanding is promoted through programmes that link various Clubs, Districts & Associations. The Inner Wheel Club of Madras belongs to District 323 and was chartered on 10th January 1966.
Presently, IWC of Madras has a membership of 86, with Ms. Anita Srinath as the President. Mrs. Mano Bhakthavatsalam is the senior – most member of the IWC of Madras.
Projects Undertaken by Inner Wheel Club of Madras:
- Barbara Kelly Home
- Rotary Nagar Creche
- Tailoring School at Triplicane
- Balwadi at Thousand Lights.
Mrs. Suman Karpur, Mrs. Leela Ratnam and Mrs. Kamala Ramakrishnan, Members of the IWC of Madras, have held the post of Association Presidents in the past.
IWC of Madras has a total of 20 Past District Chairmen, who have taken Dt. 323 to greater heights. The Past Association Presidents and Past District Chairmen are pillars of the Inner Wheel movement in India.
