Rotary Club of Madras - District 3230

Club Service

Foremost amongst all avenues, is that of Club Service.  The focus of this avenue is on the internal working of each Rotary Club.

A strong Club administration will ensure smooth conduct of meetings and increased participation of Members at the regular weekly meetings.  Members are well informed about projects of the Club only if they attend weekly meetings and committee meetings regularly.  Fellowship is directly proportionate to Members’ attendance at such meetings.

The Club Service Director, with support from Club Treasurers, ensures prompt payment of all dues to Rotary International.

Fellowship is the bedrock of Rotary.  Through the year, fellowships are organized to ensure that Club Members bond well and form a close knit family.  From Full Club Fellowships to Fireside Fellowships, efforts are made to foster camaraderie and bonhomie amongst Members.  It is through fellowship meetings that many community service initiatives are born.

Rotary is formed on the basis of Classifications.  Members are allotted Classifications prior to induction, based on their business/vocation or profession.  A Classification Committee is engaged in adding new classifications, taking into account developments in businesses, vocations and professions.

A Rotary Club is for perpetuity.  To achieve this goal, new Members are inducted from time to time.  It may so happen that Members may leave a Club owing to relocation or for any other reason.  The Membership & Development Committee has the onerous task of filling vacancies created by such resignations and also has the task of infusing fresh talent in the Club.

Each successive President of the Rotary Club of Madras inherits community service projects initiated by Past Members/Presidents.  A large resource base is essential in successfully managing such projects.  A Fund Raising Committee aims at providing adequate funds for current Rotary Year, for the next Rotary Year and also to bolster the Corpus funds.

Members propose candidates for induction and a due process is observed for taking in new Members.  The final step is providing “Rotary Information” to prospective Members, prior to their induction.  “Rotary Information” seeks to appraise the candidate about the working of Rotary International and about the Rotary Club of Madras.  The information provided also touches upon the responsibilities of a Member, as also the benefits he or she may derive from Rotary.

Rotary Club of Madras is part of Rotary District 3230, comprising of over 105 Rotary Clubs spread out geographically.

District Fellowship Committee aims to strengthen relationship of the Club with other Rotary Clubs in the District, as also with R.I. District itself.  This may take the form of deputing Members to attend weekly meetings of other Clubs and carrying greetings from the Rotary Club of Madras to District Officials.

The newly set up Technology Committee intends to use the power of internet and digital medium to communicate better with Club Members and with the general public.  Creation and maintenance of a web site, monitoring messaging groups, etc., fall in the ambit of this committee.
